Paola Mar

Born in Venice in 1963 she graduated in History at Ca' Foscari University in Venice, Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, and is currently responsible for the administration and external relationships in Studio Mar.

Expert in historical cartography, bibliographical, documentary and archive research, she has concentrated mainly on regional historical research – necessary for regional planning and environmental impact evaluation – and urban historical research – indispensable for town planning and vital to understand the evolution of buildings through time, with building renovation and restoration in mind.

In connection with this activity she has written a series of articles and publications on the Procuratie Vecchie in Venice, the churches and parish churches of Val Belluna, the old commercial areas in Padua and has planned the P.T.P. of the Province of Belluno as far as historical-architectural property is concerned.

She has acted as co-ordinator with Marsilio Editori for the publication of some volumes regarding the Studio Mar works.

She is an assessor for the Venice Chamber of Commerce and is registered in the C.T.U. Register of the Venice Civil and Penal Tribunal she carried out numerous surveys for in her field.
She has often taught the training courses run by Regione Veneto.

Gian Paolo Mar, Architect

Gian Paolo Mar was born in Venice on 18 August 1934 and graduated from Venice University in 1960. He began working as a professional architect. He has held the following posts:
member of the Venice Preservation Commission, special law 171 of 16/7/73 and its amendments;
member of the scientific technical committee of Venice Expo consortium;
member of the scientific technical committee of Progetto Venezia for implementing the regional development plan;
president of the building commission for the old city centre of Venice;
president of the Venice Municipality Integrated Commission for the period 1991-94;
member of the Veneto regional technical commission for public work.

The studio is currently organised and administrated by his daughters Giovanna – architect and technical and planning manager - and Paola – administrative manager -, and employs about 25 people including associates and staff, who are mainly architects.
In recent years the studio has specialised in the drafting of numerous important instrument for town planning, restoration, public and private residential buildings, tourist residences, hospital, building for production work, schools, airport structures, furnishings and interior architecture.
The studio has worked on public residential construction particulary in Friuli and Belluno areas; tourist villages and residences at Jesolo (VE) -Golf Club-, Cavallino (VE), Bibione (VE), Lignano (UD), Chioggia -Villaggio Isamar-, on the Garda Lake; private residential work in Area ex-Moretti in Udine and Centrale Residence in Jesolo Lido (VE); planning of the public hospital in Sacile (PN) and Pordenone and the preliminary and working plan for the provincial general hospital in Mestre (VE).
The studio has also restored part of the Procuratie Vecchie in San Marco Square in Venice on behalf of Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A.

Building work directed towards the installation of services for production, commercial and sports activities includes the preliminary plan for the new maritime passenger terminal in Venice and the preliminary and definitive plan for the building complex intended to house the Department of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences of Venice University.
The studio planned and direct not only the work on the new Airport Building at Venice Airport in Tessera, but also the external works: roads and parking, I and II versions of the aircraft parking areas, vehicle access to the new goods building, the multi-floor Marco Polo Park parking building. It also designed the Double Level Acces Ramp to the new passenger building and the catering building.
Other airport-related works include: the restoration plan for the domestic and international passenger terminal at Treviso Airport, sized for an annual traffic of 1.000.000 passengers; the working plan for enlargement of passenger building at Galileo Galilei Airport in Padua; the preliminary plan for the civil airport at Galatina.

Giovanna Mar, Architect

Member of the Board of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Curators of the Province of Venice with no. 2284 since 11/03/1997, she has completed both on her own and with STUDIO ARCHITETTI MAR Srl (of which she is the Legal Representative, Board Director and Technical Manager) a few implementation plans and numerous building projects in the field of public, private, housing, tourist accommodation, commercial, business, hotel, industrial and manufacturing construction as well as tourist/education and nature-oriented projects.

She has carried out planning activities for the Ca' Foscari University of Venice and for the University of Padua, and collaborates as contract professor with the IUAV University of Venice.

She is the security Coordinator for the planning and execution of work, and meets the requirements of art. 98 of Legislative Decree 81/08.
As a result of her course of studies in architecture technology, she devotes special attention to the application and use of sustainable materials in planning; in fact, she has been a member of Green Building Council Srl since 2009. She was a member of the Competition Board and was part of the work group of “La casa dell’Architettura”, Venice, a workshop aimed at the dissemination and promotion of architectural culture.

Since 2009, she has been in charge of the Board “Sostenibilità” (Sustainability), as well as of the Board “Rapporti con l’Università” (Relations with Universities) and deputy chairwoman of the Board of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Curators of the Province of Venice.
Since 2010, she has been a member of “La Immobiliare Veneziana Srl”’s Board of Directors (97% of which is controlled by the Municipality of Venice)
