Nigel Coates, Founder / Principal

Coates trained at the Architectural Association in London. He is one of Britain’s consistently original thinkers in architecture, interior and product design, and is a leading academic in these fields. His career spans design practice and artistically driven, internationally recognised works. A true multi-disciplinarian, Coates has designed and built many significant interiors, exhibitions and buildings, and exhibits in leading galleries and museums. He is a prolific designer with links to Alessi, AVMazzega, Ceramica Bardelli, Frag, Fratelli Boffi, Poltronova, Slamp and Varaschin. As a design artist, Nigel Coates is represented by the Cristina Grajales Gallery, New York.

A dynamic force in the architectural profession, Nigel Coates leads a multidisciplinary studio that reaches across every aspect of design. The studio has extensive experience in the realisation of cultural buildings, museums and galleries. In the commercial sphere we specialise in hotel design, retail and restaurants. Our furniture and lighting design is extensive, and is produced with leading companies in Italy, the UK and around the world. We also consult on creative design strategy and brand development.
