Alessandro Isola

Isola, Alessandro studied Art and Interior Architecture in Italy before acquiring skills as an architect at the Oxford School of Architecture and the Architectural Association. He worked in Foster + Partners on various projects including a prestigious hotel in London. He has since completed a number of residential and hospitality projects in UK and abroad including Italy in collaboration with clients, contractors and developers. He is now concentrating on bespoke interior projects and developing furniture systems tailored both to specific projects and also as products for mass production. Alessandro brings in ideas of temporality and adaptability to create flexible systems that can be modified by the users to specific situation or change of use over time. Alessandro’s work has been published in the Building Design Magazine as part of the ‘Prestigious annual selection of UK talent’.

Supriya Mankad

Mankad, Supriya studied and practiced architecture in India before venturing on to a more global platform at the Architectural Association. Having worked on large scale urban projects within strong social contexts and ramifications she has now chosen to focus on the slightly smaller scale of individual building envelopes. Since the AA she has worked with Foster + Partners on residential towers in New York and with Edward Cullinan Architects on the construction of the John Hope Visitor Centre at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. She is experienced in Timber structures, Pneumatics, glazing systems and building fabric details. Supriya sees the structure and material of the building as intrinsic to the spatial qualities and combines this with a high attention to detail to create a rich exposed language of building. Her recent involvement in academics has seen her lecturing at Greenwich University and London Metropolitan University.

I M Lab

Supriya and Alessandro graduated from the Architectural Association, London in 2003 and went on to work with some famous architectural practices like Foster+ Partners before setting up I M Lab in 2008.

They continually explore the concepts of modularity and flexibility as they believe that change is inevitable and the user should have the ability of adapting, modifying and adding to the object or space to meet evolving requirements.

Their design process focuses on the relationship between technique and materiality, pushing the limits of both to develop products and spaces.

I M Lab work on a wide range of projects that include refurbishments, conversions, new build and product design. They work in close collaboration with their clients to develop requirements into unique distinctive solutions.

Their experience ranges from small scale furniture and product design to large scale buildings from design to implementation.

I M Lab’s projects have received strong reception from industry publications and are currently collaborating with production studios in Europe.
