Carlos Jorge C. Veloso, Dipl. Architect

He was born in Guarda in 1970. He graduated with a degree in architecture in the school of Architecture at the University of Oporto, in 1996. He receive an award “Eng. António de Almeida” for the best student of Architecture degree (1995/96).

He completed post graduate studies in Planning and Projects for the Urban Environment (FAUP/FEUP/UP) in 1997. He received a Praxis XXI – JNICT – MCT scholarship. He is assistant professor in the course of Architecture of University Catholic Portuguese (Viseu) and assistant professor in the course of Arts, Communication and Design of the ESTG at the Viana do Castelo Polytechnic Institute. He completed his professional internship at the Center for Studies of the school of Architecture at the University of Oporto in 1995. Between 1991 and 1995 be participated in works with the architecture studio of António Carvalho and in 1992 be worked with the architect Adalberto Dias. In 1999 be founded his own architecture studio Carlos Veloso – Architect, Ltd and since 2007 he works in partnership at Atelier Veloso Architects.

Rui Filipe C. Veloso, Dipl. Architect

Was born in Guarda in 1970. He graduated with a degree in architecture from the school of Architecture at the University of Oporto, in 2001. Between 2001 and 2002, he completed his professional internship at the Center for Studies of the school of Architecture at the University of Oporto. He is a professor in some schools of Portugal teaching professional and technological courses of the area of civil construction (since 2004). Between 1994 and 1996 be participated in works with the architecture studio of António Carvalho and 2002 be worked with the Center for Studies of the school of Architecture at the University of Oporto. Between 1999 and 2003, he exerted professional activity in collaboration with the Architect Carlos Veloso and in co-author since 2003, since 2007 he works in partnership at Atelier Veloso Architects.

Profile

The atelier had beginning of professional activity in 1996, is created in 1999 society Carlos Veloso - Arquitecto, Lda. and is reorganized in 2007 with the current designation of AVA - Atelier Veloso Architects.
AVA has for activity and social object of execution of studies and projects of architecture, whitewashing, restoration, recovery, urbanism, design, horizontal properties, maquetismo, photograph, video, exhibitions, engineering, consultation, security and health. Rendering of services in the field of public works and private and assistance, direction and fiscalization of works, as well as in the area of security and hygiene in the work. The experience of close to fourteen years of activity of the atelier allowed to accomplish diverse boardings, programs, subjects and scales of intervention.

Of the effective production the Municipal Theater of Guarda is highlighted, work nominated for diverse international prizes (ENOR 2005; FAD - Awards 2006; Mies van der Rohe Awards 2006; Prize SECIL 2006). In the scope of the public habitation is to refer to 1.º Prize in Competition I.N.H. /EUROPAN, for young architects “To innovate in the Habitation - to construct the city - Passeio das Virtudes, Porto, in 1998 (execution project) and 1.º Prize in the Competition of architecture for a “Public Housing Complex on Travessa de Salgueiros”, Oporto, in 1996 (Built) developed in co-authorship. In the equipment field schools also to refer to 1.º Prize in the Competition of architecture limited for invitation for elaboration of School EB1 S. Miguel de Nevogilde (under construction) and in the Competition of architecture limited for invitation for elaboration of School Center Antas (Built) both of GOP - CM of Porto. Currently, is under construction Unit of Health, Santo Tirso (1.º Prize in the Competition of architecture limited for invitation, 2009) developed in co-authorship.
The atelier has been invited to participate in diverse publications and exhibitions, namely in the sample “To inhabit Portugal 2003-2005”, in Triennial of Lisbon Architecture the 2007 “EUROPE, Portuguese Architecture and Emission” and more recently finalist for the Ibero-American Biennial VI.ª of Architecture and Urbanismo (BIAU) 2008.
