About Nanogel®

Aerogel is the the lightest weight solid in the world. It has a content of 5% solid, while the remaining content is 95% air. Aerogels have extremely small pores, which makes it one of the best thermal insulators in the world. These distinguishing characteristics set it apart from common silica products and make aerogels an ideal solution for insulation, coatings, filtration and other applications.

Nanogel® is Cabot's trade name for its family of silica aerogels. Cabot is the only company to commercially produce Nanogel aerogel in particulate form using a patented process that allows us to control the aerogels' porosity, pore size and distribution. Cabot produces Nanogel aerogels in particle sizes ranging from 0.5mm to -3.5 mm in opaque, IR opacified and translucent forms.

In the building and construction industry, Nanogel aerogel is gaining wide acceptance for use in Daylighting. It offers unsurpassed thermal protection, with high quality diffused light and sound reduction, when incorporated in various fenestration systems in the Daylighting construction market.

Nanogel® aerogel also addresses the specific needs of oil and gas operators who are developing subsea fields or new LNG systems. The use of Cabot’s Nanogel aerogel technology enables significant advancements in pipeline and ship design due to the combination of Nanogel aerogel’s ultra-low conductivity and its unique mechanical properties. Additionally, the wide temperature stability range of Nanogel makes it an ideal solution for both high temperature and cryogenic applications.
