Gio Ponti's innovation is evident in the unique construction of this wall unit exemplifying Ponti's interest in architecture. The bookcase retains classical qualities, while the components give the piece a modern character and functionality. The horizontal and vertical elements interrupt each other, alluding to overlapping planes of a cityscape. The graduated shelves and the continuous vertical frame give the bookcase an element of perspective that accentuate the scale and architectural character of the piece. Although rich in conceptual qualities, Ponti was also very attentive to functional detailing as in the unobtrusive built-in book supports. This bookcase is a unique example, designed and constructed for the Mostra Dell'arredamento exhibit in Como, Italy. Sold with stamped and signed letter of authenticity by Lisa Licitra Ponti.
