Butternut
20"w x 21"d x 35.5"h
Each chair signed in marker on bottom: [George Nakashima 1986 Furman Butternut]. The use of butternut is rare in the work of George Nakashima because it was uncommon to find wood of good enough quality for Nakashima's standards. When Nakashima discoverd a small stock of butternut, he produced this set of custom chairs. Suprisingly, five chairs have single-board seats, a rarity with any conoid chair, and of special significance considering the difficulty in finding high quality butternut.
