Kawakubo's furniture designs of 1984, originally intended only for her stores, were briefly made commercially available by Paolo Pallucco. Kawakubo described the table as intended for the "transitional" spaces in her shops, such as the mirrored areas outside of dressing rooms. She stated, "I prefer hard, solid materials, like concrete, iron or lead. Contrary to the belief that you like something because it is easy to use or functional, I use things because I like them...a garment may be uncomfortable, but you still wear it if you like it." Indeed, the granite table tops, their fault lines delineating each seperate slab, seem forcefully quarried from the earth and polished into grudging submission, much like her clothing which employed jagged rips of fabric from a larger loomed piece.
