In 1982, Noguchi collaborated with Gemini G.E.L. in Los Angeles to create a series of galvanized steel sculptures. The pieces were created by flame cutting sheet steel and welding the elements by hand. During the finishing process, "the sculptures passed through boiling zinc and returned with newly made surfaces of nature. The surfaces resemble those of rocks in a stream. Each skin, epidermis, outer layer, is unique in pattern and texture."
