Product sheet Tunesia book case

Architonic-ID:  4100637
Designer:
Charlotte Perriand
Manufacturer:
Atelier Prouve
Year: 1953

Largely designed by Charlotte Perriand, the bookcase features four levels of shelving segmented by bent compartments which double as the structural system. Three doors rendered in Diamond Point aluminum with mahogany pulls are the invention of Jean Prouve, who utilized this light and strong material in several of his cabinet designs. Sonia Delaunay created the color scheme for the cabinet which can be manipulated by hiding or revealing the black and white compartments behind the primary colored doors. Two ovoid legs are positioned asymmetrically under the stack of shelves, allowing for the distinctive cantilever of the platform. The Tunesia bookcase personifies the level of experimentation, artistry and innovation prevalent in the modern period. From the initial series of forty, this example is in fine original condition.
