Product sheet Bubbles chaise lounge

Architonic-ID:  4100093
Designer:
Frank O. Gehry
Year: 1979

From the Experimental Edges Series, Gehry's ''Bubbles'' chaise epitomizes the range of form achievable with a commonplace material such as cardboard. Undulating ribbons of die-cut cardboard veneers create a supple but resilient platform for sitting, and a cushion of cardboard layers create an even surface for the body. Gehry's reanalysis of everyday materials was first developed in his Easy Edges furniture of 1972 and during the rehabilitation of his Santa Monica home in 1978, when he used exposed plywood and chain-link fencing as finished architectural materials. This chaise dates from the first year of production and is in excellent condition.
