The design, inspired by toy Lego bricks, consists of a series of "soft building blocks" enabling you to build and create your own sofa design.
"The idea is that you can create your own sofa, have something both original and adaptable to your own living environment." Says Piero Lissoni. The Italian architect and designer, describes the concept as something similar to that of the alphabet. "All the elements of the sofa are like letters and you are free to create your own words."
There are 4 modular elements to the sofa; the seat, backrest, armrest and cushions. The elements can be put together in an endless variety of combinations and angles and is available in leather or fabric upholstery.
The overlapping structure in the sofa design creates a building brick effect, an important design feature of the alphabet sofa.
"Things become boring if they are too static and immobile. Beauty lies in imperfection", explains Lissoni.
The new Alphabet sofa is available to purchase from selected stores around the world from September 2008.
