Lotus & Low Lotus are new stars in the Artifort firmament: two sculptures of snow-white composite that look as thin and fragile as the petals of a lotus. For working or relaxing, but most of all for sheer enjoyment. Unique models with sharply defi ned lines and flowing, organic shapes that fi t perfectly into the Artifort tradition.
The delicate, white Lotuses are made of a extraordinary new material called Cristalplant – a snow-white composite with a pleasantly smooth texture. The material is perfect for sculptural designs and it is this that lends the
Lotus’ shell its flowing character. This is accentuated even further by legs that seem to flow into the floor.
In the hands of René Holten, Cristalplant led to two types of chair. The Lotus is a chair for working with a moulded tablet that allows room for a laptop, for example. The Low Lotus is a low, wide armchair for relaxing. It also features a moulded tablet but one that is much smaller, providing enough space for a book or a refreshment.
Construction
Shell with tablet moulded in one piece from Cristalplant composite. The Lotus had polished stainless-steel legs with a diameter of only 18mm. Because of their flowing nature, these are fitted with the thinnest possible glides. Thin fabric or leather upholstery is optional.
Cristalplant is a smooth, hard material that is soft to the touch. It is easy to clean and any superfi ial cigarette burns or other damage can be easily removed.
