Product sheet Herman Miller Eames Executive Chair

Architonic-ID:  1043799
Designer:
Charles & Ray Eames
Year:
1960

Charles and Ray Eames designed Eames executive chairs in 1960 to grace the lobbies that they designed for the Time-Life Building in New York City. That's why some people call them Time-Life chairs. They were developed to meet the need for a comfortable chair that was smaller than the Eames lounge chair.

In 1972, chess grand master Bobby Fischer specifically requested the Eames executive chair while he competed in the World Chess Championship in Reykjavik, Iceland. He said he could concentrate well in the chair. When opponent Boris Spaasky saw it, he refused to play until he got one, too.

Traditional Luxury
Rich comfort. The seat has 4 1/2-inch-thick foam cushions; the two back cushions are 3 inches thick; armrests are well padded.
Elegant touches. Large, upholstery-covered buttons and edge details; the highly polished aluminum contrasts with the sumptuous leather or fabric.

Modern Performance
Adjustability. The adjustable seat height and tilt swivel add to the comfort.
