apt 5 design was started in 2001 by Sean Yoo and Angela Tarasco. Two designers combine their diverse and complimentary skills encompassing industrial design, urban planning, interior design, and architecture to create smart and thoughtful design for the interior environment. They received a Special Mention Award for their first collection presented at the Salone Satelllite during the 2001 Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, Italy. We believe that design is still about solving problems and offering solutions that add "value" which can be understood and appreciated effortlessly by the users. We believe that it involves answering the question of "why?" with honesty and clarity and without meaningless words or details which have nothing to do with the way we actually live. We believe that good design ultimately is about this clarity of thoughts and how faithfully it is translated into a form that serves a purpose in our lives. Sean Yoo grew up in Los Angeles and received a degree in Industrial Design at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Prior to that he had also received a degree in Urban Planning and had worked as a city planner. He has won numerous awards for his designs including First Place in the Concorso Young & Design 2002 at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan and his work has been featured in many major design publications including The International Design Yearbook 2003 & 2004 .
