A perfectly shaped interplay of powerful contours and surrounding surfaces distinguishes the new, elegant chair, the S 840. It offers a high degree of comfort along with the warm and lively charm that materialises when the materials typical to Thonet furnishings are used. With its characteristic seat shell and its finely crafted tubular steel of the frame, the S 840 develops its special impact for the décor of an interior.
The superb aesthetic appeal of the S 840 derives from the accent on the separation between seat shell and frame. The cut of the surfaces on the moulded-shell seat evokes formal analogies to automobile design, where this method is applied to car-body workmanship – yet transposed at Thonet to the material of wood. The result is a clear, elegant silhouette. Thanks to its immodest aesthetic standard, the S 840 recommends itself not just as a conference chair but also as a highquality
furnishing for a lounge setting or for a private dining or work area.
The S 840 is available with the classic Thonet free-swinging frame and as a rotating four-footer model with a return mechanism that ensures that the seat shell automatically realigns itself opposite the frame. The seat element is made of shell-moulded plywood; use of an array of precious wood veneers and cover materials can alter the chair’s character, making it suitable to every furniture environment. The frames are available with chrome-surfaced or powder-coated highgrade tubular steel. The S 840 comes in two different backrest heights: approx. 78 cm and approx. 86 cm. The chair’s total width is approx. 59 cm and the total depth approx. 61 cm; seat height: approx. 46 cm.
