This micro-architectural kiosk is accessible to the passer-by, provides a totally-sealed and robust box for roadside trade in the city and avoids the invasion of areas for public use. It is modular and comes in different sizes and with different functions.
The prestigious anthropologist James Frazer said of Pausanias: «without him, the ruins of Greece would be an insoluble labyrinth, an enigma without an answer». Pausanias was a traveller and geographer who stated almost exactly what he saw in Description of Greece. Antoni Roselló pays homage to this 2nd-century AD chronicler who gathered together information and then offered it to his contemporaries. The documentary value was extraordinary and, because of him, we know ancient Greece were like.
In contemporary urban design, the kiosk is a go-between item between the modern-day chroniclers and the users of the information. This living daily information requires support and organisation. Roselló has created this box and has responded to the organisation of the kiosk, in such a way that it is totally accessible to passers-by, while it does not invade the space used by the public and adds a technological image.
Its highly-formal simplicity and straight and clear-cut shapes resolve all the needs of such a complex and functional unit in the minimum of space. It dignifies this type of unit which is so-often over-designed and has a distorted importance in the surroundings, propose many different measures and functions as may be demanded by self-financing, autonomous urban commercial units.
This is a sober and multi-functional rectangular-based kiosk which may be adapted to different needs: newspaper stands, sweet stands and lottery ticket stands, etc. The back andor on the sides provide for the positioning of standardised advertising panels.
Its main structure comprises sandblasted stainless steel sections and an exterior finish of grey-mass colored and reinforced glass fibre plaques. It has an automatic opening system which is operated by activating the sandblasted stainless steel guillotine blind and the subsequent telescopic stainless steel and glass counter manual movement and the opening out of the upper canopy. These create a shop window and an intermediate area between buyer and seller. As an option, these can be placed in the sides. Two single-sided advertising panels at the back. The inside of the kiosk includes a storage area, an area for the electrical installations and a hatch for receiving goods. A cupboard-store has been provided for the possible positioning of air-conditioning apparatus. It incorporates interior lighting with 6 big translucent Macaya wall lamps equiped with LED's. The unit is delivered assembled and is simply positioned using four adjustable legs for correct levelling. Assembly instructions are included with the unit.
