In 1969, Rud Thygesen and Johnny Sørensen won first prize in a furniture competition organised by the Copenhagen Cabinetmaker’s Guild. The furniture was presented to the Danish King Frederik IX on the occasion of his 70th birthday – hence the name the ‘King’s Furniture’. Meticulous detail and exclusive materials make the King’s Furniture series a unique monument in Danish design history. The easy chair, stool and accompanying coffee tables (7505/7576) were the first pieces in the series, which has been expanded over the years to include a wide variety of other products.
